Dr Kalpana Chawla Science Center was started in the year of 2006 by Dr Sanjay Pujari. During his tenure in working at Tilak Highschool, Karad; he met eminent scientist Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam, who was the President of India at that time. He asked Dr Sanjay Pujari, what you will do for science? He answered that he will work for science. To fulfill the promise he made to the great man, Dr Sanjay Pujari started the center on 1st July 2006.
Dr Kalpana Chawla, the daughter of India who tragically died on her space mission along with her colleagues, was always an inspirational figure to Dr Sanjay Pujari. In honour of her memory and her contribution to India, to the world and to the scientific community, he gave her name to the science center.
Various activities taken up by the center
Every Sunday, students from 4th standard to graduation students gather for two hours. They learn about various concepts is science and technology in an innovative way. Not only that various other activities like bird watching, sky observation, nature trips to understand flora and fauna, making scientific models, various sessions of eminent scientists are arranged, science quiz, plays, visiting various industries etc. And these are only few things that we do. There are literally n number of activities we conduct in our science center.
We do not have any prescribed syllabus, we do not conduct any exam, we like to keep our students tension free. We believe if you want to teach something to a student, teach him the fundamentals of that topic, show the students some experiments from which he or she can actually visualize the concept.
